About TokenCost
A free, developer-focused tool for calculating and comparing LLM API pricing.
What is TokenCost?
TokenCost is a pricing calculator and comparison tool built for software developers, AI engineers, and technical product managers who work with large language model APIs. We track pricing across 53 models from 8 providers — including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Mistral, Meta, xAI, and Qwen — and update prices as providers announce changes.
The core tool lets you enter your expected token volumes and instantly see the monthly cost across every model. No signup, no tracking, no upsell — just the numbers.
Why we built this
LLM API costs are surprisingly hard to reason about. Providers price input and output tokens separately, offer caching discounts, batch API discounts, and context-window-dependent tiers. A model that looks cheap on paper can be expensive in practice — or vice versa — depending on your input/output ratio and workload pattern.
We built TokenCost to make that reasoning fast and accurate. Enter your actual token volumes, see your real monthly cost, compare across providers, and make a data-driven decision rather than a gut-feel one.
Data methodology
All pricing data is sourced directly from official provider documentation and pricing pages. We do not estimate, interpolate, or infer prices. When a provider updates their pricing, we update the tool — typically within 24–48 hours of the official announcement.
Prices are listed in USD per million tokens, which is the standard unit used by all major providers. Where providers list per-token pricing, we convert to per-million for consistency.
Important: Always verify pricing against the official provider documentation before making financial or architectural decisions. Provider pricing can change without notice, and we may not always reflect the most recent update immediately.
What we track
Tools available
Beyond the main calculator, we offer several specialized tools:
- Chatbot cost calculator — accounts for system prompts, conversation history, and typical user message patterns
- RAG pipeline calculator — models the high input/output ratio of retrieval-augmented generation workloads
- Model comparison tool — side-by-side cost and spec comparison for any two models
- Cheapest LLM API ranking — all models sorted by input token price with use-case recommendations
- Best value LLM ranking — performance-per-dollar scores based on public benchmark data
